It’s definitely not something that originated in Venice, but residents are very fond of it for sure. It’s that time that never fails with every season. Yet during spring and summer there is more to savor: The days are longer, its enjoyable to stay outside and campi are filled with young and the not so young who are ready to begin their night (or finish their work day) with a drink in hand.
There’s no doubt what you should order: A Spritz or a Prosecco. For cocktails there’s still time. But what you do need to decide is where to enjoy this much-loved Venetian ritual before dinner. There are many possibilities from bacari and bars to savor an aperitif. From these endless choices you can choose between romantic and intimate places as well as lively and happening ones, others alongside a canal, on a terrace, cheap or even chic… Frankly there are many places and many ways to have a drink in Venice. Our suggestion is to try more than one.
For those who love movement and enjoy having an aperitif in some of the more lively areas there is Campo Santa Margherita, Erbaria area, Via Garibaldi, Castello, fondamenta degli Ormesini and cannaregio to choose from. If you love calm areas, it won’t be too difficult to find a bacaro during one of your strolls. There are many low-key especially areas even alongside a canal like Allo Squero or in a hidden campiello like Remer.
For those who don’t want forgo luxury or enjoy an exceptional view, why not choose a rooftop bar to enjoy a drink? In the historical city center you can choose between Hotel Carlton close to the train station or the classy poolside experience at the magnificent Hilton Skyline Hotel at the Giudecca or the Sagra on the Island delle Rose.
