Valentines is the holiday dedicated to those in Love, in Venice it’s worth double. Why is that? The lagoon city is the authentic city of love. No other big city can give the sweet intimacy that Venice offers with every hidden alley-way. To quote a classical Italian comedy, Venice, the moon and you, is the perfect line to describe Venice.
Visiting Venice during this time has its advantages. That is if Valentine’s Day doesn’t fall in the middle of Carnival but rather during Carnival period, revealing a perfect time to enjoy both when visiting Venice. During February you’ll find a city without too much tourism perfect for couples, romantic just to the right point with days beginning to lengthen and unpredictable weather that allows you to experience different and incredible atmospheres while in Venice. But how do you spend the perfect Valentine’s Day in this City?
A visit to the Ponte dei Sospiri (bridge of sighs)
It’s one of the most famous bridges in Venice and symbol of romance by excellence, as many movies have pointed out. This time apart from admiring it from the Paglia Bridge or passing under with a breathtaking gondola ride, you could pass through it by visiting the Palazzo Ducale Museum. Of course this bridge once connected one prison to another in the olden days. To see the bridge at least once from the inside, the same one everyone admires from the outside is a unique moment to experience together. As an alternative you can take advantage of Seeing Venice from high up by climbing the San Marco Bell Tower or the San Giorgio Bell Tower: both priceless.
A Romantic Stroll at sunset
Begin the night with a romantic stroll. Of course, strolling anywhere in Venice will do. We suggest you choose a lateral course not to crowded, possibly starting from the Fondamenta della Misericordia in Cannaregio, or from the splendid and lively area of San Piero de Casteo or even a hand in hand walk towards San Basilio up until the Punta della Dogana all during Sunset of course.
Dinner for Two
Obviously a romantic evening isn’t without a tete- à-tete in a Venetian Restaurant. If you’re looking for a luxurious one, you’ve got a lot to choose from. But if your looking for something particular you can choose the Enoteca Estro or an Osteria like La Zucca.
